DORIS THURSTON |
|
Doris Thurston, known for her psychological portraits and paintings of religious themes ("Political Portraits of 1968," and "The Beatitudes: A Woman's Search for Peace"), is a powerful expressionist in Word, Color, Sound and Movement. Her series of large Beatitude oils evolving from choreographed dances, reflect her passionate yearning for personal and universal peace. Dancer, painter, sculptress, poet, actress and teacher, she performed "Portraits in Song" from Greenland to South America. Settling in Florida, she wrote A WAC Looks Back, Stroke: A Daughter's Story, and The Beatitudes: Meditations and Prayers, (available upon request) ...Thurston's art works are in private collections and have been exhibited at Barry University, the Chicago Museum of Art, The Elliott Museum, and National Council of Churches. A religious dance special for WOR-TV's POINT OF VIEW, entitled "Worship and the Arts" (sponsored by the Archdiocese of New York), is in the Lincoln Center Dance Film Library's permanent collection, with a series of dance pastels. A book on Oskar Kokoschka, "hello-goodbye" is in the Museum of Modern Art Research Library. She received a diploma in painting from Boston Museum School, a BS in Ed. from Tufts, and attended Syracuse University (2 years). |
