Organized as a corporation in 1967 and designated
as a non-profit Florida corporation in 1988.

Who We Are:

For over thirty years the AAMC has enabled residents to enrich their lives in art education, art appreciation, and art as a part of living. We are the oldest and largest art organization in Martin County.

Some of the things we do:

  • Have monthly meetings with lectures and demonstrations by prominent artists.
  • Support beginning to professional artists, students, retired people, and art viewers.
  • Give supplies, scholarships, and exhibits to high school students.
  • Sponsor members art exhibits at the Martin County Fair, the Cultural Center, and other prestigious places, such as the Elliott Museum.
  • Provide art instructions to minority students in the early years of school.
  • Make artistic Christmas cards for the people in nursing homes.

History
In 1966 a small group of artists met in the studio of Mrs. Harold Stafford to inter-change ideas. In 1967, as the group increased in size, they organized as a corporation, to be known as The Art Associates of Martin County. The outstanding activity was to participate in the Martin County Fair. The group, as a corporation, received the non-profit designation (501C3) under the laws of Florida on April 17, 1988. Today, AAMC is the largest art society in Martin County.

Aims and Objectives
The Art Associates are decided to provide meaningful cultural programs, to act as a clearing house for art information, to encourage high standards of quality, to sponsor shows, exhibits and demonstrations, and finally, to assist and encourage creativity in the arts for its members. We also encourage student artists at the local high schools.

Meetings
Regular meetings are held on the second Monday of each month, October through May, at 7:30 PM. The June meeting is an installation luncheon.

Most meetings will be held at the Womans Club Building located at 729 East Ocean Blvd in Stuart, FL, unless otherwise indicated.

Types of Memberships
The club membership numbers almost 150, and memberships are composed of seven types. Dues are payable each year in October, and are delinquent as of December 31. Members delinquent in payment after January 1 shall be dropped.

Jurying
Members wishing to display paintings in Galleries, banks, libraries, and other buildings must be juried. Bring three representational works, properly framed and wired for hanging to the monthly meeting (the second Monday of each month). Judges reserve the right to reject unsuitable works, i.e., copies of paintings and classroom studies. Paintings must be the artist's original work.

Scholarships
Since its beginning in 1966, the Art Associates of Martin County have had a serious commitment toward Community Service.

To provide encouragement and aid for young people interested in art, each year, AAMC provides scholarships to a graduating senior of Martin County High, South Fork High School, Jensen Beach High, and Clark.

To provide ongoing encouragement to young artists, one high school "Art Student of the Month" is chosen by the art teachers, alternating between the high schools. The work is displayed at the monthly meeting of the Art Associates. The student is awarded a gift certificate for art supplies.

The teachers admit such recognition is invaluable in creating a climate to encourage real enthusiasm for art students.

Members of AAMC collect art supplies which are donated to the schools for student use. Supplies include books, frames, canvas, paper, and equipment.

School Assistance
Members of AAMC may be called upon to provide demonstrations in local schools, requested by teachers or principals. Members have participated in group sessions at elementary schools, and several members have served as mentors, aiding students at the schools on a one-to-one basis.

Art on Loan
The Art Associates maintains a program to display member's art in various public buildings through the "Paintings on Loan" program.

Members frequently donate their works for charitable causes, to aid in fundraising for charity.

Reaching Out
Each year, participants in local nursing homes choose a special hand-painted greeting card fashioned with loving care by AAMC members.
